On Friday, January 4, 2008 I was honored to join Doctors Jeff Wells and Iain Stenhouse to participate in the Christmas Bird Count on Matinicus Island, Maine.
Jeff has done this count multiple years and wished to gather new data for inclusion in the most recent effort. It was a bitter cold morning, minus 7 degrees
as I left home for the drive to Owls Head & the airport to fly to Matinicus. Photographically it was not an auspicious day whatsoever, gray & overcast with lowlight
conditions that prevailed for the eight hours or so we were on the island. Because of the slow shutter speeds with no flash employed many shots were not suitable and
many were imaged of sea ducks and birds offshore at great distances. The end result of the count included thirty-six species. The results as documented by Jeff will
be posted here once the information becomes available. The photographs below represent a sampling of our views for the day from perhaps two hundred exposures.
